CO & gas detectors

A carbon monoxide detector is non-negotiable in any home with gas appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage — CO is colorless and odorless, and detectors are your only warning. Combination smoke + CO units cover both threats in one device; standalone CO alarms are fine if your smoke detectors are separate. Look for a digital display (shows low-level readings, not just the alarm), a 10-year sealed battery or hardwired power, and UL listing. Place one on every level and near sleeping areas. Some models also sense explosive natural gas.
