Editorial Team

InspectandTest is published by an editorial team that writes under the collective byline “InspectandTest Editorial Team.” We do not put individual names on bylines because the recommendations we make are the team’s collective judgment and our research process is structured rather than personality-driven. Anonymity is also a deliberate choice given our editorial scope: we synthesize guidance from federal agencies and industry standards bodies, and we do not hold professional inspection credentials ourselves. Putting fake credentials behind a fake byline would be exactly the kind of editorial misdirection we are trying to be the alternative to.

What the team does

Our editorial team researches, drafts, edits, and maintains every guide, review, and pillar hub on this site. The work breaks down into:

• Research. Reading primary sources — federal agency guidance, industry standard documents, manufacturer specifications — in the original.
• Synthesis. Organizing source material into a structure that addresses a homeowner’s actual decision rather than mirroring the structure of the underlying sources.
• Drafting. Writing in plain language, with citations, and without padding or jargon.
• Editorial review. Reading every draft for source accuracy, internal consistency, and clarity before publication.
• Maintenance. Reviewing articles at least annually and updating them when guidance, pricing, or regulatory references change.

What the team is not

We are not licensed home inspectors, asbestos abatement contractors, mold remediation specialists, radon mitigation specialists, or industrial hygienists. We do not represent ourselves as professionals in any of those domains. Our role is research and editorial synthesis, and our articles consistently direct readers to engage credentialed professionals for decisions that require professional judgment.

Expert review

For pillar-level content and articles that touch on health-adjacent claims (radon health risk, mold exposure, asbestos and lead handling), we engage credentialed professionals — IICRC-certified remediators, NRPP-certified radon professionals, ASHI-certified inspectors — for review where appropriate. This program is in early stages; reviewer attribution is added to articles as the review is completed.
