What causes yellow mold on a ceiling?

Yellow mold on a ceiling forms where the ceiling material has been repeatedly or persistently wet. Several molds appear yellow, including some Aspergillus species and the yellow slime mold Fuligo septica, and certain growths look yellow simply because of the surface, the lighting, or the colony’s age. Color cannot identify a species; only a lab can.
