The GE RPWFE water filter is the cartridge GE lists for select French door refrigerators in its GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram lines, and only French door models. That narrow fit makes it easier to rule in or out than GE’s other filters, but replacing it with a third-party cartridge brings two catches. Every RPWFE compatible on Amazon advertises a chip, and one calls it an RFID chip that ensures compatibility with the fridge. And the replace-filter light often needs a manual reset after a change, which six of the listings describe. This guide covers the fridge models the listings name, the RPWF part RPWFE supersedes, the chip and reset details, and how genuine RPWFE compares on paper with six compatible brands.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

How we compared: we compared 12 current Amazon listings for RPWFE-fit cartridges: two genuine GE packs and ten compatible packs from Waterdrop, Pureline, Aqua Crest, Glacier Fresh, Crystala Filters and Marriotto, which amount to seven distinct products sold in different pack sizes. We compared what each listing states about fit, chip support, NSF/ANSI certification, the indicator reset and replacement interval. We did not lab-test any filter or install them hands-on. Prices and availability change, so check the current listing.

Which filter fits your fridge

GE’s two RPWFE listings say the cartridge fits select GE Appliances French door refrigerators and print no model list. The compatibles fill that gap with full model numbers, which is more useful than the series prefixes most XWFE and MWF listings use.

Filter model Filter style and location Replaces (as listings state) Fits (as listings state)
GE RPWFE (genuine) Cartridge; location not stated Not stated in GE listing Select GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram French door refrigerators
Waterdrop WD-F19C, Glacier Fresh GF-009X Chipped cartridge RPWFE, RPWF, WSG-4, DWF-36, WF277, R-3600, MPF15350, OPFG3-RF300, RWF1063, RWF3600A 20 named models, including GFE28GBLTS, PFE28KSKSS, GFD28GYNFS, PWE23KYNFS, GYS22GMNES, GYE22HBLTS, DFE28JBLTS, GNE29GYNFS
Aqua Crest AQF-FF19C Chipped cartridge RPWFE, RPWF 23 named models, adding GFD28GSLSS, PWE23KSKSS, GFS26GSNSS, GWE23GMNES, CYE22UELDS, GFE26GGHWW and others
Marriotto MR009X Chipped cartridge RPWFE, RPWF 22 named models, including GFE28GMKES, PFE28KBLTS, GFE28HMHES, DFE28JSKSS

The model families that recur across these lists are GFE28, PFE28, GFD28, PWE23, GYE22, GYS22, DFE28 and GNE29. If your rating label starts with one of those, RPWFE is a strong candidate, but check the full number.

Two collisions are worth knowing. XWFE compatibles also name the GFE28 series, so a GFE28 owner has to read the full model number or the old cartridge to know which filter it takes. And Aqua Crest’s RPWFE list includes GFE26GGHWW and GFE26GGHBB, while XWFE compatibles name the GFE26 series. Series prefixes are not enough here.

How to confirm RPWFE before you order

  1. Read the cartridge you are replacing. RPWFE or the older RPWF settles it.
  2. Find the model label inside the fresh-food compartment, commonly on an upper side wall, and copy every character, including the suffix letters.
  3. Confirm in the owner’s manual, or look for your exact model in a compatible’s list. Exact matches beat series matches.
  4. Confirm the fridge is a French door model. GE does not list RPWFE for side-by-side or top-freezer fridges.

Genuine vs compatible

Both genuine RPWFE listings claim certification to NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 372 and 401, and reduction of more than 70 impurities including lead, chlorine, PFOA/PFOS, microplastics and select pharmaceuticals. No RPWFE compatible here claims 53 or 401.

  • 42: aesthetic effects such as chlorine taste and odor.
  • 53: health-related contaminants such as lead and cysts.
  • 401: emerging contaminants such as some pharmaceuticals.
  • 372: lead-free materials in the filter itself, not lead reduction.

Among the ten compatible listings, six claim 42 and 372: all four Waterdrop packs, Pureline and Aqua Crest. The other four, Glacier Fresh, Crystala and both Marriotto packs, name no NSF standard at all. Glacier Fresh says its cartridge was tested by an independent laboratory, and the Crystala and Marriotto listings list heavy metals, cadmium, VOCs and other contaminants among what they reduce, with no certification attached. A reduction claim without a certification is a marketing claim. The CDC suggests checking a product in the NSF database to see what it is actually certified to remove.

Aqua Crest goes further than most and says its filtration performance stands on par with the original brand. Its own listing names 42 and 372 only, against GE’s four standards, so on paper that claim does not hold for health-related contaminants.

The RPWFE chip and the reset step

All ten compatible listings advertise a chip. Pureline is the one that calls it an RFID chip and says it is there to ensure compatibility with the fridge. Crystala says its built-in chip lets the cartridge work with the fridge without problems. The genuine listings do not mention a chip at all.

The listings do not spell out what happens with an unchipped cartridge, but every compatible maker builds one in and puts it in the title, which signals that RPWFE fridges check for it. Skip any RPWFE replacement whose listing does not state a chip.

The second detail is the reset. Six of the 12 listings, the four Waterdrop packs, Pureline and Aqua Crest, say that if the replace-filter light stays on after a change, you hold the Water button for about three seconds until a tone sounds. The genuine GE listings do not include this step; your manual will.

The five picks, compared listing by listing

  • Genuine part, so no chip uncertainty
  • Claims NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 372 and 401
  • States a limited one-year warranty
  • No tools or water shutoff needed
Specification Details
Filter model RPWFE
Fits Select GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram French door refrigerators
Certifications claimed NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 372 and 401
Reduction claims More than 70 impurities, including lead, PFOA/PFOS, microplastics
Replacement interval Every 6 months; no gallon rating stated
Warranty Limited one year

GE RPWFE — genuine, French door only, NSF/ANSI 42/53/372/401, 6-month life, 1-year limited warranty

The only single cartridge here with 53 and 401 claims

Only the two genuine packs on this 12-listing shelf claim Standard 53 or 401, and this is the single. For lead and PFOA/PFOS reduction claims backed by those standards, a genuine RPWFE is the only option on the shelf.

It also carries the clearest warranty on the shelf: a limited one-year term. The genuine two-pack says only “Full Warranty,” Waterdrop states a lifetime warranty with a six-month return window for defects, and most compatibles say nothing.

What the listing omits: a model list, a gallon rating and the reset instructions several compatibles include.

Pros

  • Genuine part with GE’s fit guarantee
  • Four NSF/ANSI standards claimed
  • Stated one-year limited warranty

Cons

  • No fridge model list
  • No gallon rating
  • No reset step in listing

2. GE RPWFE 2-pack — Best Genuine Pack for a Year of Changes

Best genuine multi-packGE RPWFE 2-pack

Two genuine RPWFE cartridges with the same fit and certification claims as the single, for a year of six-month changes.

Check price on Amazon$99.96 as of Oct 21, 2026 6:44 am GMT+0000 — prices change; see Amazon for current price.

Why we like it

  • Same genuine RPWFE as the single
  • Two cartridges cover about twelve months
  • Same four NSF/ANSI standards claimed
  • Only genuine multi-pack on this shelf
Specification Details
Filter model RPWFE (RPWFE2PK)
Fits Select GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram French door refrigerators
Certifications claimed NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 372 and 401
Replacement interval Every 6 months
Pack 2 cartridges
Warranty Listed as “Full Warranty”; terms not stated

GE RPWFE 2-pack — genuine, French door only, NSF/ANSI 42/53/372/401, 6-month life, 2 cartridges

The only genuine RPWFE multi-pack on the shelf

The bullets match the single in substance: same fit statement, same four standards, same six-month interval. Buy it after you have confirmed RPWFE with the single or your old cartridge.

Against the compatible three-packs from Pureline, Aqua Crest and Waterdrop, the trade is certification breadth versus cartridge count. Those packs stop at 42 and 372; this one keeps the 53 and 401 claims.

The warranty line reads “Full Warranty” without terms, which is less informative than the single’s one-year statement.

Pros

  • Genuine part with four standards claimed
  • Halves reorders compared with the single
  • No chip or reset uncertainty

Cons

  • Warranty terms not spelled out
  • No gallon rating
  • Fewer cartridges than compatible three-packs

3. Waterdrop WD-F19C — Best Certified Chipped Compatible

Best RPWFE compatibleWaterdrop WD-F19C

Rated life 6 months or 300 gallons
Extras Monthly install stickers; reset instructions

Waterdrop WD-F19C — RPWFE/RPWF replacement, chipped, NSF 42 + 372, 6 months/300 gal, 1 cartridge

Sold in more pack sizes than any other RPWFE compatible here

Waterdrop accounts for four of the 12 listings, a single, a two-pack and two three-packs, so this cartridge is the easiest compatible to test as a single and then buy in bulk. The single listing states the 300-gallon rating and the reset step, and includes month stickers for tracking install dates.

Its contaminant list is long, mentioning heavy metals, mercury, copper, cadmium, VOCs, chromium and THM, but it attributes that to a third-party laboratory, not to its 42 and 372 certificates. Treat those extras as untested by an accredited certifier until you find them in the NSF database.

The warranty line on this single is blank; the Waterdrop two-pack and one three-pack state a lifetime warranty with a six-month return policy on defects.

Pros

  • Chip, certification wording and reset step all stated
  • Gallon rating plus time limit
  • Same cartridge sold in larger packs

Cons

  • No 53 or 401 claim
  • Broader contaminant claims not certified
  • No warranty line on the single

4. Pureline PL-4700 3-pack — Best RFID-Chip Three-Pack

Best RFID-chip pickPureline PL-4700 3-pack

Three RPWFE/RPWF replacements that name an RFID chip, state NSF 42 and 372 certification and include the reset step.

Check price on Amazon$64.76 as of Oct 21, 2026 6:44 am GMT+0000 — prices change; see Amazon for current price.

Why we like it

  • Only listing that names an RFID chip
  • Certified for NSF 42 and 372, per listing
  • Reset instructions in the first bullet
  • Three cartridges per pack
Specification Details
Replaces GE RPWFE and RPWF
Fits Names GFE28GYNFS and PFE28KYNFS in its title; no full model list
Certifications NSF 42 and 372, per listing; no 53 or 401
Chip RFID chip
Replacement interval Not stated in listing

Pureline PL-4700 3-pack — RPWFE/RPWF replacement, RFID chip, NSF 42 + 372, 3 cartridges

The only listing that calls the chip RFID

Every compatible says “chip”; Pureline is the one that says RFID and ties it directly to compatibility with the fridge. It also opens with the three-second Water button reset; Aqua Crest is the only other non-Waterdrop listing that includes that step.

The weak spot is fit detail. It names just two models in its title, GFE28GYNFS and PFE28KYNFS, compared with 20 to 23 in the Waterdrop, Glacier Fresh, Aqua Crest and Marriotto listings. Confirm your model elsewhere first.

Its carbon core claims reduce heavy metals and VOCs, which goes beyond what 42 and 372 cover, and it gives no replacement interval.

Pros

  • Explicit RFID chip statement
  • Certification wording for 42 and 372
  • Three-pack with reset step

Cons

  • Only two fridge models named
  • No replacement interval
  • Heavy-metal claims go beyond its certifications

5. Aqua Crest AQF-FF19C 3-pack — Best for Checking Your Exact Model

Widest model listAqua Crest AQF-FF19C 3-pack

Three chipped RPWFE/RPWF replacements naming 23 GE models, with NSF 42 and 372 and a 6-month or 300-gallon life.

Why we like it

  • Names 23 GE model numbers, most on shelf
  • Chip noted in the title
  • States NSF 42 and 372 certifications
  • Rated 6 months or 300 gallons
Specification Details
Replaces GE RPWFE and RPWF
Fits 23 named models, including GYE22HMKES, PWE23KMKES, GFS26GSNSS, GWE23GMNES, CYE22UELDS, GNE29GGHWW
Certifications NSF 42 and 372, per listing; no 53 or 401
Rated life 6 months or 300 gallons
Pack 3 cartridges, with install-date stickers

Aqua Crest AQF-FF19C 3-pack — RPWFE/RPWF replacement, chipped, NSF 42 + 372, 6 months/300 gal, 3 cartridges

The longest exact-model list on the shelf

Aqua Crest names 23 full model numbers, ahead of Marriotto’s 22 and the 20 that Waterdrop and Glacier Fresh share. Several, such as GWE23GMNES, CYE22UELDS and the GFE26GGH models, appear in no other RPWFE listing here. If your model is one of those, this is the listing that confirms it.

The caution is its claim that performance stands on par with the original brand. Its stated certifications are 42 and 372; GE’s are 42, 53, 372 and 401. It also lists copper, VOCs, THM and chromium reduction, attributed to an independent laboratory rather than to its certifications.

Pros

  • Most exact models named
  • Gallon rating plus time limit
  • Reset step and install stickers included

Cons

  • “On par” claim not supported by its certifications
  • No 53 or 401 claim
  • Lab-verified extras are not certified claims

How long an RPWFE lasts and what the light means

The genuine RPWFE listings say every six months, with no gallon rating. The compatibles mostly add one: most Waterdrop packs, Aqua Crest and Marriotto state six months or 300 gallons, Glacier Fresh six months or 200 gallons, and Crystala six months only. Pureline gives no interval.

The replace-filter light is a reminder timer, not a sensor that reads the cartridge. None of these listings claims a sensor. That is why it has to be reset after a change, and why it may stay lit if you skip the reset. On many RPWFE fridges the listings’ three-second Water button hold clears it; your manual is the authority for your model. A heavy-use household can exhaust a 200- or 300-gallon cartridge before six months, so slower flow or a chlorine taste returning is a reason to change early.

The CDC advises changing filters on the manufacturer’s schedule, wearing gloves during the change and washing hands afterward.

What an RPWFE filter is and is not for

The CDC notes that fridge filters typically use activated carbon to improve taste and smell and that most are not designed to remove germs. Even with its 53 and 401 claims, a genuine RPWFE is a carbon cartridge at one dispenser, not a disinfection system. Our explainer on carbon water filters covers what that media handles.

Know your water before you treat it. Front Range homes on city water can read the utility’s annual Consumer Confidence Report; homes on private wells should test the well. Our guide to choosing a water filter matches filter types to test results.

If lead is the worry, the EPA notes that lead pipes are more likely in homes built before 1986, and its consumer tool for lead filters points buyers to products certified to both 53 and 42 for lead. None of the RPWFE compatibles here has that pairing. For a kitchen sink as well as the fridge, see our guide to filters for lead in water. For PFAS, the EPA suggests filters certified to lower PFAS; only the genuine listings make a PFOA/PFOS claim here.

Installing an RPWFE without leaks

  • GE’s listing says no tools or water shutoff are needed. Keep a towel handy for drips from the old cartridge.
  • Seat the new cartridge fully, following the instructions packed with it.
  • Reset the filter light, then dispense several gallons to flush air and carbon fines.
  • Check the housing for drips over the next day and note the install date; several compatibles include stickers for this.

Not sure your GE fridge takes RPWFE at all? Our GE refrigerator water filter overview compares it with XWFE and MWF. The best refrigerator water filters roundup covers other brands, and the refrigerator water filter basics guide explains how these cartridges work.

When the filter is not the problem

A new cartridge will not stop water pooling under a French door fridge, a leaking supply line or saddle valve, or a taste change at every tap. Those point to the plumbing. In an older Front Range home, and especially during a purchase, it is worth having the supply and fixtures checked. Reach out through our contact page to connect with a vetted local inspector.

Frequently asked questions

What refrigerators use the GE RPWFE water filter?

GE's listing says select GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram French door refrigerators. Compatible listings name full models in the GFE28, PFE28, GFD28, PWE23, GYE22, GYS22, DFE28 and GNE29 families. Some GFE28 models take XWFE instead, so confirm your full model number.

Is RPWF the same as RPWFE?

Every compatible here lists RPWF alongside RPWFE as a filter it replaces, so the shelf treats RPWFE as the current replacement for RPWF. Check your manual for your exact model before buying.

Does an RPWFE replacement need an RFID chip?

All ten compatible listings advertise a chip, and Pureline says its RFID chip ensures compatibility with the fridge. The genuine listing does not mention one. Choose a compatible only if its listing states a chip.

Why is my GE filter light still on after replacing the RPWFE?

The light is a reminder timer and usually needs a reset. Six listings here say to hold the Water button for about three seconds until a tone sounds. If that does not work, follow the reset steps in your owner's manual.

Are RPWFE compatibles as good as genuine GE?

Not on paper. The genuine RPWFE claims NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 372 and 401. Six compatible listings claim 42 and 372, and four name no NSF standard. None makes a certified lead or PFAS reduction claim.
