Lg refrigerator water filter

Choosing an LG refrigerator water filter starts with one question: which cartridge does your fridge use? LG has built refrigerators around several filter styles, and the listings on Amazon today are dominated by the LT1000P family, with the LT500P and a handful of water-and-air bundles alongside it. The genuine LG listings also make far stronger certification claims than most compatibles, which changes the genuine-versus-compatible math more than it does for some other brands. This page maps the LG part numbers the listings name, shows how to confirm your fridge’s filter, explains what the NSF standards on each box mean, and ranks five current listings. If you already know you need the LT1000P, our dedicated LG LT1000P water filter guide in this same series goes deeper on that one cartridge.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

How we compared: we compared 10 current Amazon listings for LG refrigerator filters, six sold by LG and four from compatible brands, on what each listing actually states: the part numbers it replaces, rated capacity in months and gallons, the NSF/ANSI standards it names, whether it bundles an air filter, and stated warranty. We did not lab-test these filters or install them hands-on. Prices and availability change often, so check the live listing before buying.

Which filter fits your fridge

The table below is built only from what these listings state. It maps LG filter families to the part numbers they replace; it is not a complete list of every LG refrigerator.

Filter model Style and location Replaces (per listings) Fits (per listings)
LG LT1000P (also LT1000P2, LT1000P3 multi-packs) Twist-and-lock cartridge, quarter turn per the bundle listing ADQ74793501, ADQ75795105, AGF80300704, AGF80300705; compatibles add LT1000PC, LT1000PCS, MDJ64844601, ADQ74793502 LG French door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer models, per LG’s bundle listing; compatibles name LFXS, LMXS, LFXC, LRFDS and LRMXS families
LG LT500P Style not stated in listing ADQ72910911 Fridge models not stated in listing
LG LT120F (air filter, sold in bundles) Fresh-air filter, not a water filter ADQ73214402, ADQ73214403, ADQ73214404, ADQ73334008 LG models with a fresh-air filter slot; bundled with LT1000P in several listings

Notice what is not on this shelf. We found no current listings for the LT700P or LT800P cartridges in this pull, so this page cannot speak to their fit. If your old filter says LT700P, LT800P or another LG number, match that exact part number rather than substituting an LT1000P. The cartridges are not interchangeable just because they share a brand.

Some compatible listings also name Kenmore part numbers such as 46-9980, because, per those listings, some Kenmore refrigerators take the same cartridge. If you own a Kenmore and the old filter carries one of those numbers, the LT1000P family may be your match, but confirm with the number on the cartridge.

How to find your fridge model and current filter

The filter in your fridge is the best evidence. Remove it and read the part number printed on the body or label. LT1000P or any of the ADQ7479 or AGF8030 numbers above point to the LT1000P family. ADQ72910911 or LT500P points to the LT500P.

Without the old cartridge, find the model number. LG generally places the model and serial label inside the fresh-food compartment, often on a side wall, and the same number is in the owner’s manual and on the original sales paperwork. Search that model number in LG’s parts lookup or compare it to the fit list in a listing you trust. Do not go by fridge style alone; French door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer models all appear in the LT1000P fit statements, and other LG cartridges serve those same styles.

Genuine vs compatible

LG’s listings are unusually specific. Three of the six genuine listings name NSF 42, 53 and 401 by number in the title: the single LT1000P and both water-and-air bundles. The two LT1000P multi-packs here say only “NSF-certified,” though they repeat the same reduction claims for cysts, asbestos, mercury, lead and benzene. The LT500P names NSF 42 only. LG’s single-pack listing goes further and says only genuine LG filters are certified by NSF International to those three standards.

The compatibles are narrower. Three of the four compatible listings name NSF 42 and 372; the fourth, ramco, does not name an NSF standard at all. Here is what the numbers cover:

  • NSF/ANSI 42: aesthetic effects, mainly chlorine taste and odor.
  • NSF/ANSI 53: health-related contaminants such as lead and cysts.
  • NSF/ANSI 401: emerging contaminants such as some pharmaceuticals, herbicides and pesticides.
  • NSF/ANSI 372: lead-free materials in the parts that touch water. It does not mean the filter reduces lead.

So for LG, a certified compatible and the genuine LT1000P are not making matching claims. A compatible naming 42 and 372 is a taste-and-odor filter built from lead-free materials. The genuine LT1000P, per its listings, adds 53 and 401. If lead or cysts are part of your reason for filtering, that gap matters. The EPA’s consumer tool for lead-reducing filters advises looking for certification against both NSF/ANSI 53 and 42 by an accredited third party, and you can confirm any filter’s status in the certifier’s online database.

Watch the wording, too. “Certified by” a named body is the strongest claim. “Tested to,” “meets” or “in compliance with” can describe a brand’s own testing. LG’s single-pack listing also warns that third-party filters can cause damage and are not covered under the LG warranty. None of the LG listings here describe a chip or sensor that rejects compatibles, so the warranty statement, not a lockout, is the practical consideration.

The 5 picks, compared listing by listing

1. LG LT1000P2 — Best Genuine LT1000P Value

Best genuine valueLG LT1000P2

Two genuine LG LT1000P cartridges, each rated 6 months or 200 gallons, with LG's cyst and lead reduction claims.

Why we like it

  • Genuine LG LT1000P cartridges
  • Two filters cover a year at the stated interval
  • Same reduction claims as LG’s single pack
  • Clear 6-month or 200-gallon rating
Specification Details
Cartridge LG LT1000P, two-pack (part AGF80300812)
Capacity 6 months or 200 gallons per filter
Reduction claims 99.99 percent of cysts, 99 percent of asbestos, and nearly all mercury, lead and benzene, per listing
Certifications named “NSF-certified”; standard numbers not stated in this listing
Warranty 90 days

LG LT1000P2 — genuine LT1000P 2-pack, 6 mo / 200 gal each, LG reduction claims, 90-day warranty

The Genuine Two-Pack That Covers a Full Year

Two of the six genuine LG listings are multi-packs of the bare LT1000P cartridge without an air filter: this two-pack and a three-pack. At LG’s stated 6-month interval, two cartridges cover a year, which lines up with how most households actually reorder.

The listing repeats LG’s broader reduction claims: cysts, asbestos, mercury, lead, benzene and some pesticides and pharmaceuticals. Those claims match the NSF 42, 53 and 401 scope that LG’s single-pack listing names by number, although this two-pack listing itself says only “NSF-certified.” The packaging on genuine LG filters should show the standards; check before you install.

The stated warranty is 90 days, shorter than the one year LG’s single-pack listing gives. It is also a bare water-filter pack, so if your fridge has an LT120F fresh-air filter due at the same time, pick 3 bundles both.

Pros

  • Genuine LG cartridges
  • Two filters for a year of use
  • Broad reduction claims stated

Cons

  • Standard numbers not repeated in this listing
  • Only a 90-day warranty stated
  • No air filter included

2. LG LT500P — Best for LT500P Fridges

Best for LT500P fridgesLG LT500P

Genuine LG LT500P cartridge, part ADQ72910911, rated 6 months or 500 gallons and naming NSF 42.

  • Genuine LG part ADQ72910911
  • One-year warranty stated

Warranty One year

LG LT500P — genuine ADQ72910911 cartridge, 6 mo / 500 gal, NSF 42, 1-yr warranty

The Only Non-LT1000P Water Filter on the Shelf

Nine of the ten listings we compared are LT1000P cartridges or LT1000P bundles. The LT500P is the exception, and if your old filter says LT500P or ADQ72910911, it is the only match in this comparison. It is also the only listing here with a 500-gallon rating, well above the 200 gallons the LT1000P family states.

Its certification claim is narrower. The title names NSF 42, the taste-and-odor standard, and nothing more. The listing does not repeat the cyst, lead or asbestos claims that LG makes for the LT1000P. It also says the filter leaves minerals such as fluoride in the water, which fits a taste-and-odor carbon filter.

The listing does not name which fridge models use it, and its size data is clearly a placeholder, so rely on the part number from your old cartridge or manual. Packaging may vary, per the listing.

Pros

  • Genuine part for LT500P housings
  • 500-gallon rated capacity
  • One-year warranty stated

Cons

  • Names NSF 42 only
  • No fridge fit list in the listing
  • Size information unreliable

LG LT1000P2 + LT120F — genuine water and air bundle, NSF 42/53/401, 6 mo / 200 gal, quarter-turn

One of Only Two Genuine Bundles That Add the Air Filter

Two of the six genuine listings bundle the LT1000P with LG’s LT120F fresh-air filter. This one is sold as the LT1000P2 two-pack bundle; the other is a one-pack bundle ranked on our LT1000P page. If your fridge has a fresh-air filter slot, changing both together keeps their reminders aligned.

It is also among the most detailed genuine listings. It names NSF 42, 53 and 401, explains what each covers, lists the four LG part numbers it replaces, and gives a flushing volume of 2 to 3 gallons after installation. It even says what styles of LG fridge it fits, which most listings leave out.

One line needs a correction in your head: the listing says the indicator light alerts you when replacement is needed. That light is a reminder based on time since reset, not a sensor reading the water, so reset it after every change.

Pros

  • NSF 42, 53 and 401 named by number
  • Water and air filters in one order
  • Flushing volume and install method stated

Cons

  • Warranty term not stated
  • Only useful if you need the air filter too
  • Implies the light senses filter life

Waterdrop WD-F46 — LT1000P-compatible water + LT120F-compatible air combo, 200 gal / 6 mo, NSF 42 and 372

A Compatible That Matches LG’s Capacity Rating

Compatible LT1000P listings on this shelf state either 200 or 300 gallons, while LG states 200. This one states 200 gallons or 6 months, matching LG’s own figure rather than claiming more, which is a reassuringly modest claim.

It names NSF 42 and 372, the taste-and-odor standard plus lead-free materials. It does not name 53 or 401, so its claims stop short of the genuine LT1000P’s cyst and lead claims. Its broader statements about filtering out other substances rest on a third-party lab mention rather than a named certification.

The value case is the combo. Three water filters and three air filters cover about 18 months of both at a 6-month interval. Install-date stickers help you track the real age of each cartridge.

Pros

  • Names NSF 42 and 372
  • Water plus air filters in one pack
  • Capacity matches LG’s own rating
  • Lifetime product warranty stated

Cons

  • No NSF 53 or 401, unlike genuine LT1000P
  • Certifier not named
  • Not covered under LG’s warranty, per LG

5. ICEPURE RWF4700AC Combo — Best Compatible With a Stated Flow Rate

Contents Sold as a 3-combo of water filters and LT120F-compatible air filters
Capacity 6 months or 200 gallons
Certifications named NSF/ANSI 42 and 372, plus non-US marks
Flow rate 0.5 gallons per minute
Warranty Lifetime product warranty plus 6-month defect return policy, per listing

ICEPURE RWF4700AC — LT1000P-compatible combo, 6 mo / 200 gal, NSF/ANSI 42 and 372, 0.5 GPM

The Only Listing on the Shelf With a Flow Rate

None of the six genuine LG listings and none of the other three compatibles give a flow rate. ICEPURE states 0.5 gallons per minute, which is a handy baseline if you are trying to decide whether a slow dispenser is a filter problem or a supply problem.

Its fit list is one of the longest on the shelf and includes several newer LRFVS, LRMDS and LRFDS model numbers. As always, that list is the seller’s claim, and the listing itself tells buyers to confirm before purchase.

It also claims the same reliable performance as original filters at lower cost. With 42 and 372 named against LG’s 42, 53 and 401, that is a marketing claim, not a certification match. Its heavy-metal reduction claims rest on independent lab testing it does not detail.

Pros

  • Flow rate stated
  • Names NSF/ANSI 42 and 372
  • Water and air filters together
  • Lifetime product warranty stated

Cons

  • No NSF/ANSI 53 or 401
  • Same-as-original claim exceeds its certifications
  • Not covered under LG’s warranty, per LG

How to read an LG filter listing

Part number before everything

Match the replaced part number to your old cartridge first. For the LT1000P family, the genuine listings name ADQ74793501, ADQ75795105, AGF80300704 and AGF80300705. For the LT500P, it is ADQ72910911. Long lists of fridge models are useful for cross-checking but are the seller’s claim.

Certifications by number

For LG, this is the real dividing line. The genuine LT1000P listings name 42, 53 and 401. The compatibles name 42 and 372. If your goal is better-tasting water from a municipal supply, a 42-certified compatible fits that job. If you want documented lead or cyst reduction, a 53 certification is what to look for. The CDC notes that refrigerator filters often use activated carbon mainly to improve taste and smell, and that most are not designed to remove germs. Our guide to carbon water filters explains the media.

Months, gallons and the filter light

LG’s LT1000P listings state 6 months or 200 gallons; LG’s single-pack listing suggests changing every 3 to 6 months. The LT500P states 500 gallons. Change at whichever limit comes first. The filter light on an LG fridge counts time since it was last reset; it does not test the water. Reset it at each change and write the install date on the cartridge.

Installing and flushing an LG filter

LG’s bundle listing describes a quarter-turn twist-and-lock install with no tools, followed by flushing 2 to 3 gallons through the dispenser to clear carbon fines. A few habits help any LG filter change go cleanly:

  • Keep a towel under the housing; a little water escapes when the old cartridge comes out.
  • Turn the new cartridge until it stops firmly, then check for drips.
  • Flush before drinking, and discard the first few batches of ice if your manual says to.
  • Reset the filter reminder.

The CDC recommends changing filters on the manufacturer’s schedule and wearing gloves while you do it, then washing your hands, since the used cartridge holds whatever it trapped. A leak at the filter housing can run unseen behind or under the fridge. The EPA estimates household leaks waste nearly 1 trillion gallons of water a year nationwide; check the floor near the fridge after any filter change.

Front Range water: what an LG filter can and cannot do

For Denver-area homes on municipal water, a fridge filter is mostly about taste and odor. Before you pay extra for a higher-spec cartridge, read your utility’s annual water quality report, which the EPA requires community water systems to publish. It shows what was detected in your supply.

Lead is a house-by-house question. The EPA says lead pipes are more likely in homes built before 1986, and that brass fixtures and lead solder are the common sources where there is no lead service line. In an older Front Range home, the genuine LT1000P’s stated NSF 53 certification is a real advantage over 42-and-372 compatibles. For other options, see our guides to filters certified for lead in water and to choosing a water filter by contaminant.

On a private well, common across Elbert County and rural Douglas and El Paso counties, the CDC advises testing at least once a year and before choosing a filter. A fridge filter treats one tap; it is not a substitute for a well treatment system or a whole-house water filter when the problem is the whole supply.

For the cross-brand picture, see our explainer on how refrigerator water filters work and our roundup of the best refrigerator water filters.

When a new filter will not fix it

If a fresh, correctly seated LG filter still leaks, the housing or seals may be damaged. If the dispenser stays slow, the cause may be low supply pressure, a kinked line or a failing inlet valve. Those are repair jobs, and our plumbing and water hiring guide explains how to vet the right pro.

Front Range homeowners who want the water supply and plumbing checked during a purchase or sale can reach out through our contact page to connect with a qualified local inspector.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which LG refrigerator water filter I need?

Read the part number on your current filter. LT1000P or ADQ74793501, ADQ75795105, AGF80300704 or AGF80300705 points to the LT1000P family, and ADQ72910911 points to the LT500P. Without the old filter, use the model number on the label inside the fresh-food compartment and your owner's manual.

Are compatible LG filters certified the same as genuine LG filters?

No. The genuine LT1000P listings name NSF 42, 53 and 401. The certified compatibles in this comparison name NSF 42 and 372, which cover taste and odor plus lead-free materials. They do not claim the 53 certification for lead and cysts.

How often should an LG fridge filter be changed?

LG's LT1000P listings say every 6 months or 200 gallons, and LG's single-pack listing suggests 3 to 6 months. The LT500P is rated 6 months or 500 gallons. The filter light counts time since reset, so reset it each time and track the install date.

Will a compatible filter void my LG warranty?

LG's own listing says third-party filters are not covered under the LG warranty and can cause damage. None of the listings describe a chip that blocks compatibles. If your fridge is still under warranty, a genuine filter avoids that question.

Do I need to replace the LT120F air filter too?

Only if your fridge has a fresh-air filter slot. Several genuine and compatible listings bundle LT1000P water filters with LT120F air filters so both can be changed together. The air filter handles odors in the fridge and does nothing for water.
