Best Nugget Ice Maker (2026): 7 Picks Compared by Use
The best nugget ice maker is the one that keeps up with how your household drinks, fits under your cabinets and is easy enough to clean that you actually do it. Nugget ice, sold as pellet, pebble or “sonic” ice, is soft and chewable because it is built from compressed ice flakes rather than frozen in a mold. That process makes it different from the bullet-ice machines covered in our countertop roundup, and it also means more moving water, more wet surfaces and more places for scale and film to build up. Below are seven picks matched to specific jobs, then a buying guide on output claims, water quality, descaling and keeping the machine sanitary.

How we compared: we compared 12 current Amazon listings for countertop nugget ice makers on what each listing states: daily output, first-batch time, water tank and basket size, cleaning and descaling modes, noise figures, certifications and warranty. Two other listings on the shelf made bullet ice and were set aside. Several listings are the same machine under a second product page, so the 12 listings cover 10 distinct models. We did not lab-test these machines or use them hands-on. Prices and availability change often, so check the current listing before buying.

The seven picks, compared listing by listing
1. GoveeLife Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro H8120 — Best Overall for Heavy Daily Use

60 lb per day nugget ice maker with dual water tanks, separate 10- and 30-minute cleaning modes and a 3-year warranty.
Check price on Amazon$499.99 as of Oct 21, 2026 1:02 am GMT+0000 — prices change; see Amazon for current price. Why we like it
- Top stated output on the shelf: up to 60 lb daily
- Separate quick-clean and 30-minute descale modes
- Two water tanks, over 15 lb of ice per fill
- Longest stated warranty here: 3 years
- App sends cleaning reminders on schedule
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Stated output | Up to 60 lb of nugget ice per day; first ice in about 6 minutes |
| Water capacity | Dual tanks, 2.2 L plus 4.9 L |
| Ice storage | 3.5 lb basket (per listing title) |
| Cleaning | 10-minute routine clean and 30-minute deep descale mode, both with added cleaner |
| Controls / noise | 4.45-inch touchscreen, app and voice control; as low as 40 dB stated |
| Size / weight / warranty | About 18.5 x 15.2 x 15.9 in; 42.4 lb; 3-year warranty |
GoveeLife H8120 — 60 lb/day, 2.2 L + 4.9 L tanks, 3.5 lb basket, 10- and 30-min clean modes, app/voice, 40 dB, 3-yr warranty
The Only Listing Here That Pairs a Dedicated Descale Mode With a 3-Year Warranty
Two of the 12 nugget listings mention descaling at all: this GoveeLife and the Euhomy IM039 below. The GoveeLife is the only one that separates a short routine clean from a longer descale cycle, which matters because the two jobs are different. A quick rinse knocks back film and loose debris; a descale with an acid cleaner dissolves the mineral crust that hard water leaves on the evaporator and water path. Five of the 12 listings state a warranty term, and this is the only one that states three years.
It is also one of only two listings claiming 60 lb per day, along with the SenCre NIM600S-A. The dual-tank layout, with the listing claiming more than 15 lb of ice per fill, means fewer trips to the sink on a heavy day. App control is shared with only one other listing on the shelf (the Silonn), and here the app is used for practical things: scheduling ice and pushing cleaning reminders.
The trade-off is size. At roughly 18.5 inches wide and 42 pounds, this is the largest and heaviest machine in the comparison by a wide margin, so measure your counter depth and the clearance under your upper cabinets before ordering. The listing does not state an electrical safety certification such as ETL or UL, which three other listings do, and it does not state power draw.
Pros
- Highest stated daily output, tied with one other
- Separate routine-clean and descale modes
- 3-year warranty, the longest stated here
- Large dual tanks reduce refills
Cons
- Largest footprint and heaviest unit compared
- No electrical certification named in the listing
- Cleaner and descaler are sold separately
- App and lighting features add complexity some buyers won’t use

Euhomy IM039 — 35 lb/day, 1.1 L tank, 1.8 lb basket, 15-min self-clean, 4 citric cleaner packs, ETL, under 45 dB
The Only Listing Here That Includes Descaling Cleaner in the Box
Most listings on this shelf describe a self-clean button and leave it there. The IM039 goes further in three ways. It is the only one of the 12 that includes cleaner, four packs of citric acid, so the first descale doesn’t wait on a separate order. It is one of two that talk about scale at all. And it is the only listing that spells out what to do after a deep clean: run two or three fresh-water cleaning cycles and throw out the first one or two batches of ice.
That last instruction matters: acid cleaner left in the lines ends up in the ice.
It is also one of only two distinct models on the shelf, alongside the EUHOMY HZB-12E, whose listings name ETL certification. Output is mid-pack at 35 lb a day, and the 1.1 L reservoir is on the small side, so heavy users will refill often. The listing does not say whether the unit can connect to a water line.
Pros
- Cleaner included; clear rinse steps after descaling
- ETL certification named
- Fits under standard upper cabinets at about 12.3 in tall
- Detachable lid eases interior wiping
Cons
- Small 1.1 L reservoir means frequent refills
- 35 lb per day is mid-range output
- Longer warranty requires registration

| Size / warranty | About 16.7 x 13.7 x 13.7 in; warranty not stated in listing |
SenCre NIM600S-A — 60 lb/day, 3 L + 3.8 L tanks, 4.84 lb basket, sediment pre-filter, UV-C, 40 dB, self-clean
The Only Nugget Listing Here With a Water Pre-Filter
One of the 12 listings mentions filtering the incoming water, and it is this one. A PP cotton sediment filter catches grit and particles before water reaches the freezing path, and the listing says the machine accepts higher-grade filters for chlorine taste and odor. A sediment filter does not soften water or stop mineral scale, so it is not a substitute for descaling, but it does keep particles out of a mechanism with small passages.
The 4.84 lb basket is the largest stated on the shelf; the next largest is the GoveeLife at 3.5 lb, and the Euhomy machines list 1.8 lb. Combined with a 60 lb daily rating and nearly 7 liters of total tank volume, this is the machine to put on a party counter or a busy family kitchen.
What the listing does not say matters. There is no warranty term, no electrical certification, and no description of how long the self-clean runs or whether it handles descaling. The UV-C feature is named in the title but not explained, so treat it as a bonus rather than a reason to skip manual cleaning.
Pros
- Highest stated output, tied with the GoveeLife
- Only built-in sediment pre-filter on the shelf
- Largest ice basket stated
- Insulated bin aimed at slower melt
Cons
- No warranty term stated
- No electrical certification named
- Self-clean cycle details not described
- Wide footprint at about 16.7 in

| Warranty | 1 year, manufacturer |
Silonn SLIM41T — 44 lb/day, removable 3 L tank, app/voice/timer, self-clean, 40 dB, 1-yr warranty
The Only Mid-Size Listing Here With a Lift-Out Water Tank
Four listings describe some removable or lift-up part, but most of those are lids and covers. The Silonn’s 3 L tank is the part that actually lifts out of the machine, which is the most practical cleaning feature on a nugget ice maker. Standing water is where film starts, and a tank you can carry to the sink, wash and dry is easier to keep clean than one you can only drain and wipe through an opening.
It shares app and voice control with only the GoveeLife, but it gets there in a far smaller box: roughly 12 by 10 inches of counter space versus about 18.5 by 15 for the GoveeLife. The tank is also generous for the size; among single-tank units, no other listing here states more than 1.8 L.
It is tall, though, at about 14.9 inches, so check the gap under your cabinets. The listing doesn’t describe a descale mode or include cleaner, and the self-clean cycle length is not given.
Pros
- Lift-out 3 L tank simplifies cleaning
- Smart scheduling in a compact footprint
- 44 lb per day is above shelf median
- 1-year warranty stated
Cons
- Nearly 15 in tall; may not fit under cabinets
- No descale mode described
- No electrical certification named

EUHOMY IM017 — 44 lb/day, 1.8 L tank, 3-button control, 20-min self-clean, interior light, 13.9 x 9.85 x 14.95 in
The Highest-Output Nugget Listing Here Without App or Smart Features
Two listings rate 44 lb per day: this one and the Silonn. Above that sit only the two 60 lb machines, both of which add dual tanks, touchscreens or app features. The IM017 is for buyers who want strong output with three buttons and nothing to pair with a phone.
It is also one of the listings that states the length of its self-clean cycle (20 minutes); the Euhomy IM039 and Kismile list 15, the SenCre handle model lists 10, and the GoveeLife lists 10 and 30. Knowing the cycle length helps you plan a weekly clean on a schedule rather than whenever the ice tastes off.
The weak spots are the paperwork. The listing names no warranty term and no electrical certification, and it does not mention descaling. The first batch is listed at 7 to 10 minutes, slower than the 5- and 6-minute claims elsewhere, though first-batch time matters far less than daily output once the machine is running.
Pros
- 44 lb per day with simple controls
- 1.8 L tank reduces refills on a basic model
- Self-clean cycle length stated
- Moderate 23 lb weight
Cons
- No warranty or certification stated
- No descale guidance in the listing
- Nearly 15 in tall

| Alerts | ADD WATER and ICE FULL indicators; large viewing window |
| Cleaning / noise | One-touch self-clean; lift-up top; under 45 dB stated |
| Certification | ETL certified |
| Size / weight / warranty | About 13 x 11.6 x 9.5 in; 19.6 lb; 12-month warranty |
EUHOMY HZB-12E — 34 lb/day, 1.2 qt tank, 1.8 lb basket, handle, lift-up top, ETL, under 45 dB, 12-month warranty
The Only Nugget Model Here With Both a Carry Handle and Named ETL Certification
Three listings describe a carry handle: two product pages for this same EUHOMY machine and the SenCre 40 lb model. ETL appears on three listings, and two of them are this machine’s pages. So for a buyer who wants something portable with a named electrical certification, this model is the shelf’s clear answer.
The lift-up top is a quiet bonus, since reaching the inside of the machine to wipe the basket shelf is the hardest part of manual cleaning on most nugget units.
Output is modest at 34 lb a day, and the tank is just over a liter. The listing does not mention descaling or include cleaner. A second Amazon page sells what appears to be the same machine under a different part number, so compare current listings before buying.
Pros
- Handle plus ETL certification
- Lift-up top helps manual cleaning
- Water and full-bin alerts
- 12-month warranty stated
Cons
- 34 lb per day is below shelf median
- Small tank; frequent refills under heavy use
- No descale mode or cleaner described

7. Kismile Z5825NB Nugget Ice Maker — Best for Small Counters

Compact 35 lb per day nugget ice maker, about 12.2 x 11 x 8.3 in, with a 15-minute self-clean and 43 dB stated noise.
Check price on Amazon$144.99 as of Oct 21, 2026 1:02 am GMT+0000 — prices change; see Amazon for current price. Why we like it

| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Stated output | 35 lb per 24 hours; first batch in about 7 minutes |
| Water capacity | 1.1 L tank |
| Cleaning | Hold ON/OFF 5 seconds for a 15-minute self-clean |

Kismile Z5825NB — 35 lb/day, 1.1 L tank, 15-min self-clean, 43 dB, about 12.2 x 11 x 8.3 in, stainless
The Narrowest Nugget Listing on the Shelf
At about 8.3 inches wide, this Kismile is the narrowest of the 12 listings; the Euhomy IM039 and SenCre handle model come next at 8.5 inches. None of its stated dimensions exceeds about 12.2 inches. Three distinct models on the shelf claim 35 lb per day, and this one does it in a box small enough for a galley kitchen or an office break nook.
The listing names no warranty and no electrical certification, and it does not mention descaling. For a small machine that may run daily, plan on a monthly descale with a manufacturer-approved cleaner, especially on hard water.
Pros
- Narrowest unit on the shelf
- 35 lb per day from a small unit
- Stated self-clean length and noise level
Cons
- Small 1.1 L tank
- No warranty or certification stated
- Basket capacity not stated

How to read nugget ice maker specs
Daily output is a ceiling, not a promise
Every listing on this shelf quotes pounds per 24 hours, from 26.5 lb on the smallest model to 60 lb on the two largest. Treat that number as a best case. Ice makers pull heat out of water and dump it into the room through a condenser, so output drops when the kitchen is warm, when vents are crowded against a wall or backsplash, and when the tank starts with warm tap water. Leave the clearance the manual asks for around the vents, and fill with cold water.
A practical way to size the machine: a household that only wants ice for a few drinks a day is well served by 26 to 35 lb. Families who fill large tumblers several times a day, or anyone who wants the basket full for guests, should look at 40 lb and up.
Basket size matters more than first-batch time
Nugget ice makers do not freeze their storage bin. Ice sits in an insulated basket and slowly melts back into the reservoir, where it is turned into more ice. That loop is why basket capacity, stated on only some listings here, tells you how much ice you can actually grab at once. A 60 lb machine with a small basket still only hands you a few pounds at a time.
Tank size and the water line question
None of the 12 listings here describes a direct water-line connection; all are fill-by-hand machines. Tank sizes range from about 1.1 L on compact units to about 7.1 L across both tanks on the GoveeLife. Bigger tanks mean fewer refills, but also more standing water to keep clean.
Noise and certification
Eight of the 12 listings give a decibel figure, from 40 to under 45 dB. Electrical safety marks are less common: only three listings, covering two distinct models, name ETL certification. A recognized lab mark on the unit itself is worth confirming for any appliance that runs unattended on a kitchen counter.
Cleaning, descaling and keeping ice sanitary
A nugget ice maker is a small, warm-and-wet machine. Water sits in the reservoir, ice melts back into it, and the room air drawn across the condenser carries dust. That combination is why every listing on this shelf advertises some kind of self-clean cycle, and why none of those cycles replace actual cleaning.
Mold and slime film
The CDC notes that mold can look like spots of many colors and can smell musty, and that wherever it grows indoors, the fix is to clean it up and correct the moisture problem. The EPA’s guidance on mold and moisture puts it simply: the key to mold control is moisture control. Inside an ice maker you cannot remove the moisture, so the control is frequency. Empty the reservoir rather than letting water sit for days, dry the basket between uses, and wipe the lid gasket and the area around the ice chute. If you see pink, black or green film, or the ice smells or tastes off, run a full clean right away.
Descaling on Front Range water
Hardness varies a lot between Front Range utilities and wells, so check your provider’s water quality report or test a well before assuming either way. Nugget machines are especially sensitive to hard water because the freezing cylinder and auger need to stay smooth to compress flakes. The EPA describes scale as a mineral deposit that builds up inside hot water pipes, boilers and heat exchangers, restricting or even blocking flow. The same chemistry shows up as white crust on an ice maker’s evaporator and sensor probes, and as cloudy, gritty ice. If you already see hard water stains on faucets and glass shower doors, plan on descaling the ice maker monthly with the cleaner the manufacturer names.
Filling with filtered water slows the problem but does not stop it, because most pitcher and countertop filters target taste, chlorine and certain contaminants rather than hardness minerals. Our comparisons of the best countertop water filters and refrigerator water filters note which filters claim to reduce scale.
A simple cleaning schedule
- Daily or every few days: drain the reservoir if the machine has been idle, empty the basket and let it air-dry.
- Weekly: run the built-in self-clean cycle, then discard the first batch of ice.
- Monthly on hard water: descale with the manufacturer’s cleaner, then run two or three fresh-water rinse cycles, as the Euhomy IM039 listing describes.
- Any time you sanitize with bleach: the CDC warns never to mix bleach with other cleaners, and to use only regular unscented household bleach following label directions. Check the manual first; some manufacturers prohibit bleach in their ice makers.
Where to put a nugget ice maker
Countertop nugget machines plug into a standard 120-volt outlet, and most kitchens put that outlet near the sink. The NFPA advises that GFCIs be installed in kitchens, bathrooms, garages and basements, and that outdoor receptacles be GFCI protected; it also recommends testing GFCIs monthly. If the outlet you plan to use near the sink or on a patio does not have a test and reset button, or is not protected by a GFCI breaker, have an electrician look at it before setting a water-filled appliance there.
Leave the side and rear vents clear and keep the unit out of direct sun.
If your built-in refrigerator ice maker quit and that is why you are shopping, troubleshoot it first with our guide to why an ice maker stops making ice. And if you prefer harder, clearer cubes, our best countertop ice maker roundup covers bullet-ice machines.
When the problem is your water, not the ice maker
Ice that tastes metallic, smells like sulfur or keeps clouding with scale even after descaling is a signal about the water supply. A countertop appliance can’t fix that, and a filter may not either if the cause is the well, the plumbing or the water heater. Homes on private wells along the Front Range should test water annually, and city-water homes with older plumbing can test for lead if the house predates modern fixtures. Our plumbing and water hub walks through which tests answer which questions, and a water dispenser may suit households that would rather use bottled or point-of-use filtered water.
If you are buying a home and want the plumbing, water quality and kitchen appliances checked before closing, contact us to connect with a local inspector who can test the water and look at the supply lines.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between nugget ice and regular ice?
Nugget ice is typically made by scraping thin flakes of ice off a chilled cylinder and compressing them into small, airy pellets. That makes it soft and chewable and quick to chill drinks. Regular countertop machines freeze water on metal prongs into solid bullet-shaped cubes that are harder and melt more slowly.
How much nugget ice does a household need per day?
For a few drinks a day, a 26 to 35 lb machine is usually plenty. Families who fill large tumblers several times daily or host often should look at 40 to 60 lb models. Listed daily output is a best case, and a warm kitchen or warm fill water will reduce it.
How often should a nugget ice maker be cleaned?
Run the built-in self-clean weekly and drain the reservoir when the machine sits idle. On hard water, descale about once a month with the cleaner the manufacturer specifies, then run fresh-water rinse cycles and discard the first batches of ice. Clean right away if you see film or the ice smells off.
Why does my nugget ice maker have white crust inside?
White crust is mineral scale from hard water. The EPA describes scale as mineral deposits that build up and restrict water flow, and in an ice maker it coats sensors and the freezing cylinder. Regular descaling removes it; a sediment filter alone will not prevent it.
Can a nugget ice maker be used in a garage or outdoors?
Most countertop nugget machines are designed for indoor room temperatures, and very cold or very hot spaces reduce performance. If you use one on a patio or in a garage, plug it into a GFCI-protected outlet, keep it shaded with vents clear, and bring it indoors for winter.
