Pin versus pinless — which technology for flooring?

Pin meters

Two probes pressed into the wood read electrical resistance, which correlates to moisture content. Pros: small, accurate on small pieces, forgiving of operator error, replacement pins are cheap ($5 to $15 per set). Cons: pin holes are visible on finished flooring; pins eventually break; surface readings only unless you use insulated long-pin probes for depth.
