Old Lead Paint: A Homeowner Risk and Action Guide

How much old lead paint is still out there?

The numbers vary by source but agree on the order of magnitude. EPA estimates 38 million pre-1978 U.S. homes still contain lead-based paint. Where old lead paint is most often found in pre-1978 homes

Not every surface in a pre-1978 home contains lead. The highest-probability surfaces include:
